For any new construction project, especially in South Florida, there is an initial permitting stage where the building department verifies planned construction with the local zoning codes, proper building setback and greenspace requirements as well as the drainage capabilities. Additionally, the building department can require additional surveys to ensure that construction is following the planned positions. Site grading may require a Topographic Survey to find current ground elevations or stakeout proposed vertical positions. Towards the completion stage of the project, a final Boundary Survey and FEMA Elevation certificate is typically required in order to receive a Certificate of Occupancy.
